The Foundation Academy has always felt a responsibility to take care of the environment. With this responsibility in mind, our campus is proud to be a “green school” in Jacksonville, Florida. Built with environmentally friendly ideas and designs, our classrooms accomodate our instructional needs, while at the same time, reduce energy usage.
Our school is also very proud of the organic gardens surrounding our classrooms. Each class is responsible for maintaining a garden, producing food, and sometimes eating the benefits! Students love the environmental education that comes with this process. They learn not only to help take care of our planet, but also a life skill in growing their own food.
During the 2011-2012 academic year, The Foundation Academy was the first school in Jacksonville with a working aquaponic farm on it’s campus. We grow organic produce sold to local grocery stores and restaurants. Students assist in the set-up, maintenance, and production aspects of the farm.
